A5 Scores Two First Team Defensive Dandies

May 18, 2017 -

Each year Prepvolleyball.com publishes a number of lists to recognize High School and Club achievement.  The players on Defensive Dandies list are all-around high school or club talents who project as back row animals at the collegiate level. Basically, if they can dig it up at an elite level but played all the way around for high school and/or club, they're on this list.  Here are Gabby's and Riley's citations from Prep:

Gabby Curry, -- Curry picked up her second Gatorade State Player of the Year award recently after another stellar performance for the Wolves this past fall. Curry, who was also an Under Armour First Team All-America selection, was the anchor as Buford claimed another Class AAAAA state championship. The Kentucky signee finished with 405 digs, 254 kills and 72 aces. She will be a defensive player in Lexington.

Riley Fischer (A5 17 Jing),  - Fischer was an MVP libero last summer as A5 added to its achievements with the USAV Junior National Championship in the 16 Open division, but she plays outside in high school. This past fall, she earned First Team All-State honors as the Hoyas rang up a 47-12 record and won the Georgia AAAAAA title. Fischer, a great athlete committed to the Florida Gators as a libero, finished the fall season with 223 kills, 412 digs and 67 aces.
